Tatkal Ticket Rule: Very important news has come for crores of passengers traveling by Indian Railways. The Railway Ministry has taken a big decision on Tatkal ticket booking on Tuesday. From July 1, 2025, only those passengers will be able to book Tatkal tickets whose Aadhar card has been verified on the IRCTC website or mobile app.

The Railway Ministry issued a circular on June 10 informing all zonal railways that tickets under the Tatkal ticket scheme will now be available only to those users who have entered their Aadhaar number on the IRCTC portal and verified through OTP.

To book tickets, passengers will have to login to the IRCTC website or app, enter their Aadhaar number and verify it with OTP. Only after the verification is complete will they be able to book Tatkal tickets.

According to the Railway Ministry, the aim of this step is to provide the benefits of Tatkal ticket scheme to only genuine passengers. Earlier this scheme was misused by middlemen and brokers, due to which genuine passengers were not able to get tickets.

Aadhaar verification will stop fake bookings and bring transparency in the ticket booking process. Under the Tatkal ticket scheme, passengers can book tickets a day before the journey, but seats are limited and tickets get filled quickly. After the new rule, the chances of getting a ticket will increase because only users verified with Aadhaar will be able to make bookings.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had announced that soon e-Aadhaar Authentication will be made mandatory for Tatkal ticket booking so that only genuine passengers can get confirmed tickets.

Apart from this, IRCTC has also informed that within the first 10 minutes of the start of Tatkal ticket booking, only those passengers will be able to book tickets whose IRCTC account is linked to Aadhaar. During this time, even authorized agents will not be able to book tickets, which will ensure transparency and priority in ticket booking.
