ITR Refund Status: This time many changes have been made in all the ITR forms by the Income Tax Department. For this reason, the last date for ITR Filing has been extended from 31 July to 15 September. Meanwhile, many people have filed their ITR and are now waiting for their refund (ITR Refund). Now people want to know when the refund will come? Let us tell you that there is no fixed date for this, but if you want, you can check the refund status yourself by visiting the Income Tax website.

The Income Tax Department has provided the facility to taxpayers to track ITR refund through its official e-filing portal. The Income Tax Department has given two ways to track the refund. The first can be checked on the Income Tax e-filing portal and the second can be checked by visiting the website of Refund Banker NSDL (now Protean e-Gov Technologies). According to the department, the most updated information is usually available on the e-filing portal.

How to check refund status on e-filing portal

1 – First of all visit incometax.gov.in.

2 – Click on ‘Login’ and login by entering PAN, password and captcha.

3 – Then go to ‘e-File’ > ‘Income Tax Returns’ > ‘View Filed Returns’.

6 – Go to the ‘Refund Status’ section to find out whether the refund has been issued, is in process or has failed due to incorrect bank details.

Refund issued, but not yet received
According to a report published in Business Standard, in many cases, refunds are delayed or fail due to problems related to bank account verification. CBDT advises taxpayers to ensure that the bank account provided for receiving refund should be pre-validated, linked to PAN and active for ECS (Electronic Clearing Service). If the refund has been processed but has not arrived in the account, you can go to the portal and submit a ‘Refund Reissue Request’.

When does the tax refund come?
The income tax refund amount is usually transferred within 4 to 5 weeks of e-verification. It is important that you pre-validate your bank account with a unique identifier like PAN card, so that financial transactions remain completely safe. The department sends emails and SMS when the refund is credited or there is a delay due to any technical reason. So keep your contact details updated in the e-filing profile.
