Why did the rule have to be changed?
Till now, booking Tatkal tickets was like fighting a war for the common user. In fact, as soon as the Tatkal Ticket Window opened, due to the brokers and fake agents associated with the booking, these were sold out within minutes and the needy common passengers were disappointed and it became difficult for them to get tickets. The change of Aadhaar authentication in the rule related to Tatkal tickets has been brought by the Railways to solve this problem, so that common passengers can easily get the opportunity of Tatkal ticket booking and those who commit fraud in this work are curbed.
Only registered users will be able to book tickets
If we look at a notification issued by the Indian Railways regarding the change in the rules of Tatkal ticket booking, then from July 1, while the rule of booking Tatkal tickets on IRCTC through Aadhaar authentication was implemented, the date of July 15, 2025 was fixed to make OTP Based Aadhaar Authentication mandatory. This change in the railways will ensure that the Tatkal ticket booking is being done by the same user whose Aadhaar number is registered. This change in the rules is being implemented for Tatkal Ticket Booking.
Aadhaar OTP authentication will work like this
Ticket booking will be very easy due to this process started by the railways to curb the fraud of Tatkal tickets. Actually, when the user books Tatkal ticket from IRCTC account linked to Aadhaar card, then in this process a one time password i.e. OTP will come on the registered mobile number of that user along with Aadhaar. Your ticket booking will be confirmed only after submitting it. Not only in online ticket booking, but now Aadhaar and OTP will be necessary even for booking Tatkal ticket from the counter.
This rule of 30 minutes also applies
Another special change in the rule change made by Indian Railways to easily get Tatkal tickets for common passengers is that now only Aadhaar authenticated common users will be allowed for AC and Non-AC for the first 30 minutes of opening of Tatkal ticket booking window, while agents will be able to do booking after that. It is worth noting that Tatkal booking for AC class starts at 10 am and for non-AC at 11 am and this change will make it easier for common passengers to get Tatkal tickets.
