Direct Tax Collections: A positive news has come out regarding the country’s economy. According to the Finance Ministry, direct tax collection has reached Rs 6,64,807 crore till July 10 in the current financial year. Whereas in the same period last year, this figure was Rs 6,44,375 crore. That is, an increase of 3.17% has been registered in direct tax collection.

    Slight decline in net tax

In the current financial year, the government’s net direct tax collection between April 1 and July 10 was Rs 5.63 lakh crore. Although this is a huge amount, it has registered a decrease of 1.34% compared to the same period last year. The main reason for this decline was the increase in tax refunds, which increased by 38% to Rs 1.02 lakh crore.

This increase is considered a big relief for the government. Direct taxes, i.e. taxes like income tax and corporate tax are collected directly from the taxpayers. It is from these that the government gets the necessary funds for development plans.

    The citizens paid the tax

According to ministry sources, this increase is due to an increase in the number of tax payers, better digital systems and efforts to curb tax evasion. Experts believe that this figure shows that the country’s business activities are stabilizing and people are becoming more conscious about paying taxes.

    Reforms in the tax system

The government hopes that this figure will go up further as the financial year progresses, which will enable more investment in education, health and infrastructure. This trend of direct tax collection not only indicates strength in revenue, but also proves that efforts to reform the Indian tax system are showing their effect.
