The refund for the cancelled Air India flight will be sent to the same bank account from which the ticket was booked. If the account is closed, you will have to contact the Air India office to submit new bank details.
Passengers faced huge inconvenience due to the cancellation of several international flights of Air India on Tuesday, 17 June 2025. This step was taken after the tragic accident of flight AI171 going to London last week, in which 241 out of 242 passengers died. After this accident, Air India has increased the technical checks and safety inspections of its flights.
According to an official statement from Air India, at least seven international flights, which were from major cities like Delhi and Mumbai, were cancelled or declared temporarily non-operational as of Tuesday. The airline said on X (formerly Twitter), “Flights have been affected due to bad weather in Delhi. Some flights are being diverted. Please check your flight status before heading to the airport.”
For passengers troubled by this unexpected situation, Air India has simplified the refund process. Passengers can track the refund of their booking online and apply for a refund through the website or mobile app.
Steps to track refund

- Click on “Check Status Pending Refund” option
- Fill in the required details and submit
- How to get refund:
- Go to “Manage Booking” section on the website or app and select “Refund” option.
- In case of booking through a travel agent or third party portal, contact them.

- Refund can be applied for within two years from the date of issue of ticket.
No refund will be given in this situation
If the flight is cancelled by Air India and the airline’s self-service option is selected for rescheduling, then no additional charges will be levied. Usually the refund is processed within 7-10 working days. In case of delay, a complaint can be lodged on the customer support portal with the case ID.
The refund will be sent to the same bank account from which the ticket was booked. In case of account closure, the Air India office will have to be contacted to submit new bank details. Air India has appealed to the passengers to check the status of their flight before any journey and in case of any inconvenience, get help from the helpline or website.
