With Bihar assembly elections coming closer, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s focus has also shifted to free schemes and providing maximum facilities to the voters. After decisions like women reservation and increasing pension, now he is preparing to give free electricity up to 100 units to the people of the state. This proposal has been approved by the Finance Department, but the cabinet’s approval is yet to be given.

It is being told that all the families of the state will get the benefit of the free electricity scheme. A proposal has been prepared by the Energy Department to provide 100 units of free electricity. This proposal was first sent to the Finance Department where it was approved. Under the proposal, consumers will not have to pay any charge for up to 100 units, but those who use more than this will have to pay a charge per unit.

It is not yet clear what will be the outline of this Free Electricity Scheme. For example, only after the cabinet’s approval will it be known how consumers can take advantage of this scheme. The finance department’s approval has been taken first for the scheme because the state government will have to bear its financial burden. Currently, in the urban areas of the state, consumers are charged Rs 7.57 per unit for the first 50 units. After this, a charge of Rs 7.96 is levied.
