Biometric Update in Aadhaar: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to update the biometrics of children by going to schools. According to the information revealed, UIDAI is planning to work on this by imposing caps in schools in a phased manner after two months. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar told news agency PTI Bhasha that more than 7 crore children have not updated their biometrics for Aadhaar. He further said that it is necessary to update biometrics after completing 5 years of age.
Testing is going on on the project
The CEO of UIDAI said, UIDAI is working on a project to update the biometrics of children with the consent of parents through schools. We are currently testing this technology. It will be ready in 45 to 60 days. ‘Completion of mandatory biometric update on time is an essential requirement to maintain the accuracy and reliability of children’s biometric data.
Biometric update will be free
If the child’s biometric is not updated even after the age of 7 years, then the Aadhaar number will be deactivated under the current rules. At the same time, the process of completing this update is free if the child is between five and seven years old. But after seven years, a fee of Rs 100 will have to be paid to update the biometric.
Aadhaar is made for these children without biometrics
The purpose of this is to ensure seamless use of Aadhaar in availing services like admission in school, registration for entrance examinations, availing scholarship, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes etc. Kumar said, we are planning to implement the second update process in schools and colleges, which is done after the children complete 15 years of age. At present, Aadhaar of newborns and children below five years of age is made without their ‘biometrics’.
