Political parties have urged the Election Commission to hold the elections immediately after the Chhath festival, celebrated in late October, to ensure maximum voter participation, as a large number of people working outside return home for the festivals.
The 2020 state assembly elections were held in three phases under the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic. This time, several political parties have demanded a single phase election. The Election Commission will announce its final decision on this today.
Earlier, the Chief Election Commissioner had undertaken a two-day visit to Bihar, where he reviewed preparations for the assembly elections. During his visit, he held meetings with representatives of all recognized parties and also provided guidance to responsible officials.
