Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana: Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is being run by the central government. This scheme was first launched in 2010. It was given a new name in the year 2017. The purpose of this scheme is to provide financial assistance for nutritious diet to pregnant women and lactating mothers, increase their awareness about health services and encourage positive thinking towards girl child. The last date for registration for this has been made 15 August 2025.

During this time, door-to-door awareness and enrollment campaigns are being run through Anganwadi and ASHA workers, so that all eligible pregnant and lactating women can be reached. Under the scheme, Rs 5000 is given by the central government on becoming a mother for the first time. If a woman gives birth to a daughter for the second time, then Rs 6000 is again given. The money received through the scheme can be used to provide nutritious food to the mother and child.

Know what is the Prime Minister’s Mother Vandana Scheme
Under this scheme , women get Rs 5000 when they become pregnant for the first time. The first Rs 3000 is given at the time of registration of pregnancy. Rs 2000 is given as the second installment on registering the birth of the child. If a girl is born on the second pregnancy, then Rs 6000 is received from the government. This assistance is sent to the Aadhaar-linked bank or post office account of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Which women will get the benefit?
The pregnant woman should be at least 19 years old. Apart from this, the annual income of the family should be less than 8 lakhs. If the woman has a MNREGA card or is getting the benefit of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, then you are eligible for this scheme. Women who have e-shram card or BPL card or are disabled can also apply for this scheme.

More than 4 crore women got benefit
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, more than 4 crore women across the country have received the benefit of at least one installment. The government has so far distributed an amount of ₹ 19,028 crore. According to PIB, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a central government sponsored scheme, which is being run under the sub-scheme ‘Samarthya’ of Mission Shakti. Its aim is to improve maternal and child health.
