Bihar News: PM Modi to get Chhath festival included in UNESCO’s list
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a major announcement on Sunday in the 126th episode of his monthly radio program “Mann Ki Baat,” saying that the central government is working towards getting Chhath Puja included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. PM Modi said that this festival, once a local tradition, is now becoming a global celebration.
He emphasized that when Chhath Puja is included in the UNESCO list, people around the world will have the opportunity to experience its divinity and grandeur. He also cited the inclusion of Kolkata’s Durga Puja in the list in 2021, which gave the country’s cultural identity global recognition.
Bihar News: Emphasis on ‘Vocal for Local’ and National Service
With a grand mention of Chhath Puja, PM Modi appealed to the countrymen to promote ‘Vocal for Local’ during the upcoming festive season. He urged people to buy indigenous products, especially at least one Khadi product on October 2 and share it on social media with the hashtag ‘Vocal For Local’.
Bihar News: Emotional Connect Before Bihar Elections
PM Modi’s remarks come at a time when the Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled for later this year, increasing its political significance. The Chhath festival is considered a symbol of devotion, discipline, and reverence for nature in Bihar. Following the announcement, Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal told the media in Patna that PM Modi has “touched the hearts of the people of Bihar” by highlighting this initiative, just as Kolkata’s Durga Puja has gained recognition. This announcement is being seen as an emotional step by the central government towards establishing Bihar’s cultural prestige on the global stage.
