Many taxpayers of the country are confused about the last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR). Actually, every year the last date for filing ITR for individuals used to be 31st July, but this time the department has amended it. The tax department has extended the last date for filing ITR to 15 September 2025 due to delay in Excel-utility forms for ITR-1, 2, 3 and 4 forms, changes in reporting process, system upgrades and technical preparations.

This is why the ITR deadline was extended
The Income Tax Department had released the tax utility for ITR-2 and ITR-3 a few weeks ago. However, the Excel-based utility for ITR-5, 6 and 7 forms has not been released yet. Not only this, the online utility of ITR-3 form is also not available yet. Due to this, taxpayers are facing problems in filing returns. According to a report by Financial Express, experts believe that due to these technical problems the department may extend the deadline further.

Still 50 days left
However, taxpayers still have more than 50 days left to file their returns. During this time, they will have to file the return as well as complete its verification. If this process is not completed on time, then a penalty may have to be faced. In such a situation, taxpayers should file their ITR as soon as possible and get it verified. So that their refund can come as soon as possible.

These taxpayers will benefit
Let us tell you that the benefit of the deadline extended by the tax department will be especially available to salaried people and Hindu Undivided Families (HUF), whose accounts do not need to be audited.
