500 Rupees Note Disconnect News: For the last few days, a message regarding the 500 rupee note is going viral on the social media platform WhatsApp. This message claims that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will stop issuing 500 rupee notes after a few months. This viral message has created confusion among the people. Let us know what is the truth of this claim.
What is the truth of the viral message?
According to the fact check of the Press Information Bureau, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has not made any such announcement regarding the 500 rupee note. The fact check further said that this WhatsApp message is being made viral to create confusion. No information has been given by the officials regarding this nor has the Reserve Bank of India issued any circular. In such a situation, this claim is false.
PIB said in a social media post, ‘RBI has not issued any such instructions. The validity of Rs 500 note will remain. In such a situation, do not pay attention to wrong information. Before trusting any news, verify the source of sharing it.’
RBI had issued this circular
Actually, for the convenience of the people, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had instructed all White Label ATM operators to increase the number of 100 and 200 notes in their ATM machines, so that people can easily get small notes. RBI said in a circular, ‘In an effort to increase people’s access to frequently used notes of different values, it has been decided that all banks and White Label ATM Operators (WLAO) will ensure that 100 and 200 rupees notes continue to come out of their ATMs on a regular basis.’
90% of ATMs will have 100 or 200 rupee notes by March 31, 2026
The RBI circular further stated that from September 30, 2025, 75 percent of all ATMs will have 100 and 200 rupee notes. This number will be increased to 90 percent by March 31, 2026.
