UPI Payment: Making payments through UPI in India may soon become more convenient. According to a report, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the agency that operates UPI, is preparing to provide the facility of payment through biometrics.
UPI Payment: India is rapidly progressing in the world of digital payments. Meanwhile, the option of making payment through UPI can become even easier. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) can start biometric verification for transactions. With this, users will be able to authenticate payments with fingerprint, face ID and iris scan. In such a situation, the need to enter PIN in UPI will end. It can remain only optional. At present, there is a need to enter PIN in UPI for payment.
Till now, to make UPI payments, the user has to use a 4 or 6 digit PIN. This PIN is set at the time when the user makes payment through UPI ID with his bank account. Let us tell you that in many smartphones, there is an option to unlock the phone by showing the face but it does not use biometric data. In such a situation, those sensors of the phone will be used to complete the UPI payment which can verify biometric data.
Know what is Biometric Payment System?
In Biometric Payment System, fingerprint or face ID will be used to confirm payment. This payment facility is more secure than PIN or password and is also very easy. PIN or password can be easily stolen or copied. But, this risk is less in biometric payment.
This system will be faster and easier. Especially for those who have trouble remembering PIN. Although using PIN for UPI payments is a safe method, but if someone somehow finds out your PIN, it can be dangerous for anyone. There have been cases where someone’s bank balance has been cleared by finding out someone’s UPI PIN. In such a situation, approving payments through biometric authentication will increase the security of UPI payments even more.
Know what the experts have to say
In this case, experts say that it is possible to find or copy a PIN but it is impossible to copy someone’s fingerprint or face scan. This facility will eliminate the hassle of remembering the PIN. This will benefit the elderly and those in rural areas who are less digitally literate. Now they will get a chance to transact in a safe and easy way. The biometric payment system will work in the same way, just like you use fingerprint or face ID to unlock the phone, you will be able to do the same for payment.
When will this new facility be launched
NPCI has not yet given information about the launch date of this new payment feature. However, it has made it clear that its focus is to make UPI payment more secure and easier than before. It is possible that in the coming days, the facility of using biometrics instead of PIN may be available in UPI.
