Ways to change surname in EPFO
There are two ways to change surname in EPFO account, you can change your surname online from home. Apart from this, you can also change the surname by visiting the EPFO office.
1. Online process – fastest and easiest
- Go to EPFO unified portal (UAN Member Portal) and login with your UAN and password.
- Select Modify Basic Details option in the Manage section.
- Fill the new surname registered in the Aadhaar card and click on Update Details.
- The request for change will go to your employer. They will check the documents and send it further to EPFO.
- EPFO officials will accept the change after final approval.
The entire process usually takes 15–30 days.
2. Offline method
- First of all download the Joint Declaration Form, in which write the old and new surname clearly.
- Attach necessary documents like Aadhar card, marriage certificate or other identity proof.
- Get the form signed and stamped by your employer.
- Submit all the documents to the EPFO regional office.
- It may take about 15–30 working days for the change.
