Amarnath Yatra 2025: At least 36 pilgrims going on the Amarnath Yatra were slightly injured when a bus collided with four other buses in Ramban district on Saturday. Officials said that these buses were part of a convoy going from Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu to Pahalgam base camp in south Kashmir.
Officials said that the accident took place near Chandrakot on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at around 8 am. They said that the accident occurred due to brake failure of a bus, which later collided with four other vehicles.
The brakes of the bus had failed
Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan said that the driver of the last bus of the convoy lost control and the bus hit the vehicles stranded at the Chandarkot langar site, damaging four vehicles and injuring 36 passengers slightly. He said that the officers present there rushed the injured to Ramban District Hospital. Several senior police officers reached the hospital to monitor the treatment of the injured and directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure good care.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the passengers were shifted to other vehicles for further journey. Ramban Medical Superintendent Sudarshan Singh Katoch said that after first aid, the pilgrims were discharged immediately. Officials said that after replacing the damaged buses, the convoy was sent to the destination.
According to officials, the fourth batch of 6,979 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp between 3.30 am and 4.05 am in two separate convoys. The fourth batch included 5,196 men, 1,427 women, 24 children, 331 sadhus and sadhvis and one transgender.
Officials said 4,226 pilgrims left in 161 vehicles via the 48-km traditional Pahalgam route for the Nunwan base camp, while 2,753 pilgrims left in 151 vehicles via the 14-km longer but steeper Baltal route.
