Under the new facility, UIDAI will allow you to update details like name, date of birth, family information online from home, which will reduce dependence on service centers. Know when and how you can update new details.
Aadhaar Update Online: Currently, one has to go to the Aadhaar Seva Kendra to update most of the details in the Aadhaar card. But, this will not happen from November 2025. Aadhaar card holders will be able to update many important details sitting at home.
This facility is part of the new initiative of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which aims to make digital Aadhaar services more convenient and accessible. Especially for those who live in remote areas or have trouble traveling.
Which details can be updated online?
Till now, Aadhaar holders could update demographic details like name (minor changes), address, gender and date of birth (up to a fixed limit) on the myAadhaar portal. This scope will be further expanded from November. According to UIDAI officials, now some important information can also be changed online.
Changes in name, such as spelling correction or abbreviation can be completed online.
The limit and scope of update of date of birth will also be increased.
Family member information, such as father’s or husband/wife’s name will also be updated online.
Address can also be updated through Aadhaar of any other resident. This will be document or consent based.
Apart from this, the facility of updating mobile number and email address can also be made available digitally in future. Currently, it can be updated by visiting the Aadhaar service center.
How will the online update process happen?
- You will have to login to the myAadhaar portal.
- You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.
- You will have to upload the document after OTP verification.
- The update will start after verification from the UIDAI system.
In some cases, such as major changes in name or date of birth, video verification may be required. After approval of all changes, the updated digital Aadhaar copy can be downloaded. UIDAI says that most requests will be processed within 3–5 working days.
These things have to be kept in mind
- The uploaded documents should be clear, valid and match the updates.
- Fake documents or providing incorrect information may result in the application being rejected or the Aadhaar number being temporarily suspended.
- Biometric changes (fingerprints, eye scan or photo) will require a visit to the service center as it requires physical verification.
UIDAI will release new guidelines and list of approved documents around November. With this digital facility, crores of Aadhaar holders will now be able to correct information like name, address and family details from home.
Why was this change made?
The demand for digital services has increased since the Covid pandemic. The aim of this initiative of UIDAI is to reduce the crowd at Aadhaar service centers and improve the digital experience. More than 140 crore Aadhaar numbers have been issued in the country so far, and crores of people take advantage of government schemes, banking and mobile services through it.
