ATM Withdrawal Charges: ATM transaction rules are constantly changing. Banks have now increased the charges on cash withdrawals from ATMs, which is effective from May 1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had approved these increased charges in April itself, making ATM usage more expensive for customers.
Banks give a limit to customers to withdraw money from ATM. This limit is different in metro cities and non-metro cities. After the free limit, you may have to pay up to Rs 2-3 for every additional transaction. This charge was earlier Rs 21 per transaction.
There is no change in the limit of free transactions from ATM. At present, you get 5 free transactions at your bank’s ATM every month. 3 free transactions are allowed at other bank ATMs in metro cities, and 5 free transactions in non-metro cities. This rule applies to all savings account holders.
SBI ATM Charges-
SBI has updated its ATM charge policy from February 1, 2025. At present, all customers get 5 free transactions at SBI ATMs and 10 free transactions at ATMs of other banks. If the customer’s average monthly balance is between Rs 25,000 and Rs 1 lakh, then they get 5 free transactions at ATMs of other banks.
Those whose AMB is more than Rs 1 lakh get unlimited free transactions at SBI and other banks’ ATMs. After the free limit, Rs 15 + GST is charged at SBI ATMs and Rs 21 + GST per transaction is charged at other banks’ ATMs.
HDFC Bank ATM Charges –
After crossing the free limit, the ATM transaction fee has been increased to Rs 23 + tax. Charges are applicable only on cash withdrawal. There is no charge on non-financial transactions like balance inquiry, mini statement and PIN change.
Punjab National Bank-
After the free transaction at PNB ATM, customers are charged Rs 10 plus tax. Whereas, at ATMs of other banks, Rs 23 + tax is charged in metro cities and Rs 11 + tax in non-metro cities. These changes have come into effect from 9 May 2025. (Punjab National Bank)
ICICI Bank-
ICICI Bank has not yet announced the ATM charges after the free limit. Currently, customers can make a total of 5 free transactions (both financial and non-financial) every month. After this, Rs 21 is charged on every financial transaction and Rs 8.50 + GST is charged on every non-financial transaction.
Yes Bank ATM Charges-
Five transactions per month are free at Yes Bank ATMs. After this, a fee of Rs 23 is charged on every transaction. Rs 10 is charged on non-financial transactions like balance checks.
